It is said to be the place where <strong>Lord Vishnu killed the demon Gayasura<\/strong> or pinned him under his foot. The name \u201cGayasura\u201d becomes \u201cGaya\u201d in local tradition.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It\u2019s also closely linked with religious rituals, especially <em>Pind Daana<\/em>, which is a Hindu ancestral rite.
